The deck above has to be genuinely waterproof for the space below to be genuinely dry. A surface that sheds most of the water still drips through at the seams and fasteners, and a patio that drips is a patio nobody sits under.
We seal the assembly at the house connection — the highest-risk point on any covered patio — so the area underneath stays dry through a full winter. No tar-based or torch-on products are involved, which means no smell, no open flame near your cladding, and no hot work permit.

Duradek is one sheet doing two jobs. It is the waterproofing and it is the floor you walk on, which means there is no seam between the two for water to find.
Where it matters most is the point the drawing shows on the left: the membrane turns up the wall and sits behind the cladding, so the drainage plane runs unbroken from the deck into the building envelope. That detail is invisible when we are finished. It is also the reason the deck is still dry long after a caulked joint would have let go.
