RhinoDecks is a deck waterproofing contractor in Burnaby working across Metro Vancouver. We are authorised Duradek installers, which means our crews are trained and certified on the detailing rather than just the product.
Why the detailing is the job
Almost nobody calls a deck contractor because the middle of their deck failed. They call because water got in at an edge — where the deck meets the house, where a post comes through, where a stair lands. The flat field is the easy part of any waterproofing job. The terminations are where the work is, and they decide whether a deck stays dry or quietly rots from the edge in.
That is why we install one product rather than a waterproofing layer with a separate wearing surface on top. Two products means an interface between them, and an interface is a thing that can come apart. Duradek is 60 mil of PVC doing both jobs at once, laid in full sheets.
What you can expect from us
We will tell you at the consultation if the structure underneath is not sound, before we start rather than after. We obtain the permits where the work needs them and schedule the inspections. We give you an itemised quote with a timeline in writing, and we hand over the warranty documentation at the walkthrough.
If a job is not right for vinyl, we will say so. A membrane over rotten sheathing hides a problem rather than fixing one, and we are not interested in being the contractor who did that.

Duradek is one sheet doing two jobs. It is the waterproofing and it is the floor you walk on, which means there is no seam between the two for water to find.
Where it matters most is the point the drawing shows on the left: the membrane turns up the wall and sits behind the cladding, so the drainage plane runs unbroken from the deck into the building envelope. That detail is invisible when we are finished. It is also the reason the deck is still dry long after a caulked joint would have let go.

Preparation
Structural inspection, then substrate preparation. Anything rotten gets replaced before the membrane goes down, because a waterproof surface over bad sheathing just hides the problem.

Installation
The membrane goes down in full sheets, and the detailing at walls, posts and stairs is done by installers trained on that specifically. Most residential decks take two to five days.
